Hammer and Heart; In The Media

Updated: Jun 5, 2018

Being featured in two publications this week, made me do a happy dance! Trend Prive

Magazine, an online magazine dedicated to spreading the message about ethical fashion, as well as the local Raleigh newspaper, The News and Observer, wrote columns about Hammer and Heart. I couldn't be more excited to tell you all about them and how I was able to achieve this!

I'm not a public relations expert. And I've never been one to search for the spotlight personally. But I do want people to know about Hammer and Heart. Because the message behind my business is what I want people to hear. And that is how we can change the fashion industry into a safer, cleaner, and more ethical business. By reaching out to the media, I hope to reach my audience on a wider scale. It wasn't an easy process and I recived a lot of no's and no responses at all.

When it rains, look for rainbows. When its dark, look for stars.

Now I'll show you how I've been able to gain coverage by publications.

  • Create a Media List - Another spreadsheet, I know. But this one is very important. Research all the places that your target audince is looking. List the name of the publication, the journalist, their contact information, etc. This list will continue to grow as you become more familiar with where your audince is looking.

  • Write a Press Release - I did this for the first time and it was not easy, but trust me, it's doable.

  • Send Out Your Press Release - grab those names from your media list and start hitting the send button! Some will respond, while others you will need to follow up with. Journalist are very busy people these days!

  • Don't be Afraid - Just do it. It's a lot of work, but the results will be worth it.
